Clever/keen ideas for crafters
Geeky tissue box cover

Anti-virus protection!

Last year around Christmas-time, I discovered a great craft project over at the Chica and Jo craft web site. (Love their web site!!!) It involved embellishing a tissue box cover with computer keyboard keys.

My husband is a “computer professional”, so I could not wait to make my own version as a gift! I ran off to my local craft store and got one of those plain wooden tissue box covers they sell there. (Quite inexpensive, too.)

First, it got a coat of silvery-gray paint and then a variety of (outdated) cyber-tech embellishments (pillaged from my husband’s heaping pile of computer garbage).

I tried to use keys to put words on there, but was stumped by the fact that the backs are not flat. So I ended up using letter stickers. Everything is held together with a very sturdy glue suitable for joining plastics and metal.

The “black holes” part is a special plastic ribbon — I’m told it is the part leftover when the sequin factory makes sequins! I bought it on super-sale at my local fabric store.

My genius son came up with the clever slogan, “antivirus hardware”. (We could not decide whether tissues would be “hardware” or “software”!)

My husband — who is sometimes a little picky about his gifts — seemed genuinely delighted and amused, and he took the strange contraption to his office, where it has been ever since.

To everyone who decides to try their hand at a similar project, may I just say, “Bless you!”
